A sample of nearly 1,500 users has found that the generic bubble screen is the most popular choice, followed by personal photos of loved ones.
A bubble image available in the handset's wallpaper folder was the most popular choice but other users were more creative, with photos of a partner in second place, followed by a holiday landscape image and a pet in fourth place.
Mobileinsurance.co.uk, who collected the sample, also created a visual of the most popular home screen display, taking into account the most common placement of apps.
Facebook and Twitter were two apps that aren't pre-installed in the iPhone but still featured in most home screens.
Director of mobileinsurance.co.uk, Jason Brockman said: “The iPhone is one of the most popular handsets out there at the moment and we wanted to know how similar the home screens amongst users looked.
"It seems there was a definite pattern in terms of the layout of certain apps and icons on the display, with people clearly wanting fast access to social media sites like Facebook and Twitter and having those icons on their first page.”
